The missteps and procrastination from youth may become secret weapons later on. 冥冥之中自有天意。
When I was depressed in college, I spent about a full year doing almost nothing but reading and writing novels and fanfics (sadly this was before the era of Dropbox, and my writings have disappeared with my old laptops). The OCD part of me made me waste way too much time thinking through relatively “unimportant” details like economics and population consistency in the world of stories.
Now as a startup CEO, I find that my single most important skill is narrative and adaptation. Not just any narrative — narrative that is a near-perfect balance between fantastic and achievable. Possibly Fate knew what I would need later, and pushed me to practice highly aligned skills in my copious free time when I was running away from reality.
